Description

Primary Duties

  • Field and troubleshoot helpdesk support requests from county users and provide technical support for a variety of systems to include but not limited to; email systems, county website, desktop computers, mobile devices, printers, on-premise productivity software, cloud-based productivity software, voice-over-ip phone systems, ip camera systems, remote work systems, public safety body-worn technology, and  end user account access issues.
  • Monitor data backups and remediate any backup errors.
  • Track vulnerability reports and apply missing updates for endpoint devices.
  • Perform periodic audits of endpoint devices and maintain inventory.
  • Auditing email quarantine and responding to end user quarantine requests.
  • Manage physical access control systems to include; creating new users, changing permissions as requested by supervisors, adjusting door schedules as needed, and troubleshooting access and hardware issues.
  • Training end-users on hardware functionality and software programs.
  • Assist with updating content on county websites.
  • Posting approved items to county social media platforms and responding to social media requests.

Secondary Duties

  • Proactively monitor technology systems for performance issues and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Assist with maintaining county websites.
  • Assist and work closely with IT Director to monitor technology systems for cybersecurity attacks, preemptively address vulnerabilities, and monitor threat intelligence sources for new risks.
  • Complete external public information data requests as well as internal data requests.
  • Tracking county employee technology trainings
  • Assist and work closely with IT Director to update, maintain and monitor all aspects of computer networks and resolve technical issues related to network interruptions.
  • Training end-users on hardware functionality and software programs.
  • Occasional after-hours on-call support.

Education and Experience

Candidates will ideally possess a minimum of a 2 year degree in a computer science, networking or related technology field along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a technology support role. Work and/or military experience may be substituted for education. Any candidate with a broad range of technology skills is encouraged to apply.

Work Environment

Service call response includes county-wide service in a dynamic, networked environment. Technical support may be provided via phone, email or by physically travelling to the county office in need of assistance. Most travel will be less than 1 mile from office. Work pressure and interruptions occur on an ongoing basis. The position requires ongoing exposure to constantly changing physical and ergonomic environments. Requires the ability to lift and work on equipment that may be located in tight and poorly lighted spaces, such as under desks, in closets, or other confined areas. Lifting and moving of computer components and peripherals weighing up to 30 pounds is sometimes required. Requires occasional periods of sustained effort and crawling under desks and confined spaces to install/uninstall and/or move equipment. Requires occasional need to climb a ladder of generally not more than 6 feet in height. Requires occasional outside work in hot or cold temperatures when troubleshooting law enforcement in-vehicle technology. Requires occasional work inside a county jail in the vicinity and view of incarcerated individuals.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
  • Ability to climb step stool or short ladder.
  • Ability to kneel and crawl under desks.

Employment & Pre-Employment Requirements

  • Must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must consent to a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must possess reliable transportation.
  • Must live within a 45 minute driving radius of Glenwood, Iowa.
